Using an MFC10 MIDI Foot Controller with a Tyros

The Tyros contains Setup functions which help to create settings for both itself and the MFC10.
Initial Preparation:
  1. Turn ON the MFC10.
    NOTE: Make sure that the 2 switches in the back are set to 'NORMAL' and 'MIDI'.
  2. Connect a MIDI cable from Tyros 'MIDI B OUT' to the MFC10 'MIDI IN'.

Selecting the MIDI Channel for the MFC10:
  1. Press the [MEMORY EDIT] and [FC EDIT] buttons simultaneously.
  2. Press the [INC/YES] or [DEC/NO] buttons to select a MIDI Channel.
    EXAMPLE: 'C16' for MIDI Channel 16.
  3. Press the [WRITE/EXIT] button. The LED display will flash.
  4. Press the [INC/YES] button to confirm the setting.
Setting up a MIDI Template on the Tyros for use with the MFC10:
  1. Press the [FUNCTION] button.
  2. Press the [H] 'MIDI' button.
  3. Press the [A] 'All Parts' button.
  4. Press the '6' Down Button 'SAVE' button.
  5. Use the [BACK] and [NEXT] buttons to display the 'MFC10' page in the screen.
  6. Use the [F] and [G] buttons to select 'MIDI B' in the screen for the MFC10 connection.
  7. Press the [H] 'CH SELECT' button repeatedly to select the MIDI Channel which the MFC10 has been set to in the section above. EXAMPLE: '16'
  8. On the Tyros screen, assign the various MFC10 Foot Switches and Foot Controller(s) to the desired functions.
  9. Press the [I] 'SEND MFC10 SETUP' button.
  10. Press the [F] 'OK' button to transmit the new settings to the MFC10.
  11. After the message 'Transmission is completed' is displayed on the screen, press the [G] 'OK' button.
  12. Disconnect the MIDI cable from the Tyros and the MFC10.
  13. Re-connect the MIDI cable from the MFC10 'MIDI OUT' to the Tyros 'MIDI B IN'.
  14. On the MFC10, press the [FUNCTION] footswitch to illuminate the LED above it.
The MFC10 buttons and foot controller(s) will now control the assigned functions on the Tyros.
Storing the new Setup as a Template on the Tyros:
  1. Press the [EXIT] button once.
  2. Press the [NEXT] button to display the 'USER' page in the screen.
  3. Press the '6' Down Button 'SAVE' button.
  4. Use the toggle buttons under the screen to name the new setup template.
  5. Press the '8' Up Button 'OK' button when finished.
  6. Press the [EXIT] button twice to return to the 'MAIN' screen.

How do I copy the Instrument ID from my Tyros3 or Tyros4?

Please follow these steps:

  1. Insert a compatible USB storage device into your instrument.
  2. While holding down DIRECT ACCESS, press EXPANSION to reach the Owner Screen.
  3. Press [I] to export the Instrument ID.
  4. Press [G] to copy Instrument ID to your USB storage device.
  5. When copy is complete, press [F].
  6. Remove the USB Storage device from your instrument and bring it to your computer.

You should be able to see a file called "instrument_id.n26" on your USB storage device. If you do not, please confirm you are using a compatible USB storage device. If you are still unable to create an instrument ID, please contact us for assistance.


How do I copy a Tyros3 or Tyros4 license key and/or voice from my computer to USB storage device?

Please follow these steps:

  1. Download the license key and/or voice file(s).
  2. Once your download is complete, copy the unzipped voice file(s) and the license key to your USB storage device by using the "copy and paste" or "drag and drop" features on your computer.
  3. Do not rename the files. Do not take the files out of the folder they came in.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Insert your USB storage device containing your license key or voice into the USB port on your instrument (located just to the right of the keyboard).

  9. Press [J]. Your Tyros will now display the Pack screen.
  10. Select the desired folder of the Pack or Voice you wan to install by pressing the button next to it one time.
  11. Press [F] to continue.
  12. Press [G] to install the pack. Do not disconnect your USB storage device from the instrument. You must leave it connected to use your instrument. It may take a few minutes to complete the loading process. Once installation is complete, press [G].

How can I re-download my purchased Tyros3 or Tyros4 Premium Packs and Voices?

Please access the Redownload Items page in My Acccount. Then, you will see the "DOWNLOAD" button for your puchased item.

 

How can I reload purchased Voice Data to a new/replaced Tyros3 or Tyros4?

Please contact Yamaha MusicSoft customer support and ask them to remove the registered License Key associated with your old instrument so that you can create a new License Key for your new instrument. (Your old instrument will no longer be able to use the purchased voice.)

How do I load voices on my Tyros3 using the optional USB cable method?

To load a Voice to your instrument using a USB cable, follow these steps.

Note: The advantage of loading a Voice using this method is that you do not need to keep a USB storage device connected to your instrument to use the Voice.

Special Requirements:

  1. You have already imported your License Key to your instrument
  2. USB cable
  1. Connect a USB 2.0 cable between your computer and the instrument.
  2. Restart instrument in hard-disk mode by pressing [MUSIC FINDER] (located just to the right of the instrument's screen) while starting up the instrument. See P. 97 of Owner's Manual for details.
  3. Open "TYROS3_HD" (hard drive) from your computer and copy the unzipped Voice files from your computer to the instrument. Do not rename the files. Do not take the files out of the folder they came in.
  4. Once copying is complete, go to the next step.
  5. Restart the instrument by pressing [EXIT] (located under Menu, near the bottom right corner of the screen). You may now load the Voice.
  6. Now, let's load the Voice. If you are loading more than one Voice pack, you will need to repeat the following steps for each pack.
  7. Press [VOICE CREATOR] on your instrument (located under Menu, to the right of the center screen).
  8. Press [A]. Your Tyros will now display the Library Load screen.

How do I load songs and other data from a Tyros3 Premium Pack on my instrument?

If you purchased a pack that includes non-Voice data such as Styles, Registrations, Multi Pads and Songs, access them by selecting the type of file you wish to use and going to the USB tab (if loading from USB storage device) or instrument hard drive (if loading from instrument hard drive).


While attempting to import a License Key to my instrument, a warning message displays indicating that "the data [I] bought (downloaded) previously will become unusable" if I import the key. What should I do?

Please disregard this message and cancel the License Key import. A License Key has already been successfully loaded to your instrument. There is no need to re-import your License Key, though there is no harm in doing so. Previously loaded data will not become unusable.

I can't upload my Instrument ID that was exported from my Tyros 3 or Tyros4 properly.

Please make sure of the file name. The file name of an Instrument ID should be "instrument_id.n26" without any exception.
If you see a difference in the file name, you can simply rename it to "instrument_id.n26" on your computer.

I can't import my Tyros3 or Tyros4 License Key, and I’m sure it has been downloaded properly.

Why do I need a Flash Memory Expansion Module to use a Premium Voice on my Tyros4?
A Flash Memory Expansion Module is an additional piece of hardware designed specifically for your instrument. Installing the Flash Memory Expansion Module to the Tyros4 allows you to import Wave files such as Premium Voices.

Where can I purchase a Flash Memory Expansion Module?
You can purchase a Flash Memory Expansion Module from your local Yamaha dealer. Compatible expansion modules are the FL512M and FL1024M.

 

How do I use a purchased voice on my Tyros3 or Tyros4?

Please follow these steps:

  1. Press [EXPANSION] (located under Voices).
  2. Select the voice you'd like to use by pressing the corresponding button next to the name.
  3. Congratulations, your new voice is now ready to use!

Note: If you purchased a pack that includes non-Voice data such as Styles, Registrations, Multi Pads and Songs, access them by selecting the type of file you wish to use and going to the instrument hard drive.

Important: If you loaded your Voice using a USB storage device, it must stay connected to your instrument when you use the Voice. If you loaded your Voice using a USB cable, see the answer of the question, "I am unable to load voices using optional USB cable method".

  Converting PSR1000/2000 Registrations to TYROS

There is no way to automatically convert the registration memory file from PSR-2000 to the Tyros, however, the following method may help to reduce the manual conversion time.
  1. Connect PSR-2000 MIDI out to Tyros MIDI in.
  2. Set the MIDI Out status on the PSR-2000 and MIDI In status on the Tyros as follows:
    • PSR-2000 ch1 Main ==> Tyros ch1 Right1
    • PSR-2000 ch2 Layer ==> Tyros ch2 Right2
    • PSR-2000 ch3 Left ==> Tyros ch3 Left
  3. Select one of the registration memories on the PSR-2000.
  4. Store the current setting on Tyros to the registration memory.
    NOTE: If a parameter setting for consecutive registrations is the same as the previous one, the PSR-2000 doesn't send a MIDI message. Yamaha recommends selecting several registration memories between steps 3 and 4 and then confirming that all parameters are updated. Yamaha arranger keyboards won't send parameter change data out the MIDI jack, if a parameter is already set. For example: if the current registration uses the style ''8 Beat 1'', which uses the GM Standard Drum Kit, and the next registration changes the style to ''8 Beat 2'' which also uses the GM Standard Drum Kit, the keyboard will not send the GM Standard Drum Kit patch change, because it's already on GM Standard Kit. Choosing a dissimilar Registration before selecting the final one helps to insure that all of the patch changes and other required information is being transmitted out the MIDI jack.

  Revoicing Pre-recorded SMF Song Files on a TYROS

Individual Song Channel (Track) Parameters such as Voice, Volume, Pan, Tempo, etc. can be changed by selecting the 'MIXING CONSOLE' function from the 'SET UP' page in 'SONG CREATOR'. The TYROS also has an 'Auto Revoice' feature which lets the user automatically substitute the higher-quality TYROS Voices for GM or XG Voices on a Standard MIDI File (SMF).
The steps below show how to manually revoice songs.
Loading a Song:
  1. Insert a floppy disk containing a Standard MIDI File Song (.mid file extension) into the TYROS.
  2. Press a 'SONG' button, [I] - [VI], to select a Song bank.
  3. Use the [BACK] and [NEXT] buttons to display the 'FD' page in the screen.
  4. Use the [A] - [J] buttons to select a desired Song.
  5. Press the [DIGITAL RECORDING] button.
  6. Press the [A] button to select 'SONG CREATOR'.
Revoicing Different Channels Manually:
  1. Use the [BACK] and [NEXT] buttons to display the '1-16' page in the screen.
  2. Select the 'Prog' number for the original Voice (to be replaced).
  3. Press the '7' [v] toggle button under the screen to delete it.
  4. Press the [BACK] button two times to display the 'CHANNEL' page in the screen.
  5. Use the [A] and [B] buttons to select 'SET UP' in the screen.
  6. Press the [MIXING CONSOLE] button.
  7. Use the [BACK] and [NEXT] buttons to display the 'VOL/VOICE' page in the screen.
  8. Press the [MIXING CONSOLE] button repeatedly to select Channels 1 - 8 or Channels 9 - 16 at the bottom of the screen ('CH1~8' or 'CH9~16' will display at the top of the screen).
  9. Press the [C] button to select the 'VOICE' section in the screen.
  10. Press the [^] toggle button for a desired Channel and select a new Voice.
    NOTE: If XG Voices from the TYROS are desired, click here for 'Selecting GM and XG Voices from the Front Panel of a TYROS'.
  11. When finished revoicing, press the [EXIT] button repeatedly to return to the 'SONG CREATOR' screen.
Saving the Edited Song:
  1. Press the [I] button to select 'SAVE'.
  2. Use the [BACK] and [NEXT] buttons to select the destination.
  3. Press the '6' [v] toggle button to select 'SAVE'.
  4. If necessary, rename the Song using the toggle buttons under the screen.
  5. Press the '8' [^] toggle button to select 'OK' and save the Song.
  6. If the original Song name is not altered, press the [F] LCD button to select 'YES' to overwrite the old version of the Song with the new one.

 Using a Foot Pedal to select Registration Settings

Registrations can be selected via foot pedal by using the 'Registration Sequence' function. This allows the user to set up a sequence of Registrations in any order to be incremented or decremented with a foot pedal(s).
Creating a Registration Sequence:
  1. Plug a Yamaha Foot Switch(es) (FC4 or FC5) into one (or two) of the Pedal jacks in the back of the keyboard.
  2. Select a desired Registration Memory Bank.
  3. Press the [FUNCTION] button.
  4. Press the [E] 'REGIST. SEQUENCE' button.
  5. Select the Pedal to be used for 'REGIST + ' (increment).
    NOTE: If two pedals are being used for Increment and Decrement proceed to step 6, otherwise skip to step 7.
  6. Select the Pedal to be used for 'REGIST - ' (decrement).
  7. Use the buttons at the bottom of the screen to specify the order (sequence) or Registrations to be used.
  8. When finished, press the [F] button to set the 'REGISTRATION SEQUENCE ENABLE' to 'ON'.

Storing the Registration Sequence with the Registration Bank:
Registration Sequence data is stored as part of the Registration Bank file.
  1. Press the [EXIT] button to return to the Main screen.
  2. Press the [J] 'REGISTRATION BANK' button.
  3. Use the [BACK] and [NEXT] buttons to select a permanent memory location ('USER' memory or 'FLOPPY DISK' drive) into which the Registration Sequence will be stored. In most cases, the original Registration Bank location will be used.
  4. Press the [6 v] 'SAVE' button under the screen.
  5. Press the [8 ^] 'OK' button to save the Registration Bank 'File' into the chosen memory location.

Using the Automatic Revoicing Feature with Pre-recorded SMF Song Files

The TYROS has an 'Auto Revoice' feature, which lets the user automatically substitute the higher-quality TYROS Voices for GM or XG Voices on a Standard MIDI File (SMF).

Overall....

Some Voices have a looping sound.

This is normal and is a result of the instrument’s sampling system.

Some noise or vibrato is noticeable at higher pitches, depending upon the Voice.

The overall volume is too low, or, no sound is heard.

  • The master volume may be set too low. Set it to an appropriate level with the [MASTER VOLUME] control.
  • All keyboard parts are set to off. Use the PART ON/OFF [RIGHT 1]/ [RIGHT 2]/[RIGHT 3]/[LEFT] button to turn it on.
  • The volume of individual parts may be set too low. Raise the volume in the BALANCE display
  • Make sure the desired channel is set to on in the CHANNEL display.
  • Headphones are connected, disabling the speaker output. Unplug the headphones.
  • If volume control is assigned to the [ASSIGN] slider or foot controller, set it to an appropriate level.
  • The [FADE IN/OUT] button is on, muting the sound. Press the [FADE IN/OUT] button to turn the function off.
  • A plug is inserted in the LOOP SEND jacks. Unplug the LOOP SEND jacks.
  • Connect the footswitch to the appropriate jack.
  • Check whether the external speaker is connected and the volume control is adjusted properly.

The keyboard volume is lower than the Style/ Song playback volume.

  • The volume of the keyboard parts may be set too low. Raise the volume in the BALANCE display.
  • The [ASSIGN] slider may be set to a low level. (By default, keyboard volume is assigned to the [ASSIGN] slider.) Set it to an appropriate level.

The Main display does not appear even when turning the power on.

This may occur if a USB storage device has been installed to the instrument. Installation of some SB storage devices may result a long interval between turning the power on and appearance of the Main display. To avoid this, turn the power on after disconnecting the device.Some characters of the file/folder name are garbled. The language settings have been changed. Set the appropriate language for the file/ folder name.

An existing file is not shown.

  • The file extension (.MID, etc.) may have been changed or deleted. Manually rename the file, adding the appropriate extension, on a computer.
  • Data files with names of more than 50 characters cannot be handled by the instrument. Rename the file, reducing the number of characters to 50 or less.

The Premium Pack data cannot be purchased.

Before purchasing the Premium Pack data, obtain the license key.

What is Super Articulation! Voice?

The SA Voices provide greater playability and expressive control in real time. For example, with the Saxophone Voice, if you play a C and then a D in a legato manner, you will hear the note change seamlessly, as though a saxophone player played it in a single breath. Similarly with the Concert Guitar Voice, the D note would sound as a “hammer on”, without the string being plucked again. Depending on how you play, other effects such as shake or breath noises (for the Trumpet Voice), or finger noises (for the Guitar Voice) will be produced.

Calling up Custom Voices and User Voices via MIDI

The Tyros is designed so that the Preset Voices and Custom Voices can be selected via MIDI with Bank Select and Program Change Number. The User Voices, however, cannot be selected. If one is using an external sequencer to call up Voices that have been edited, the Custom Voices should be used instead of the User Voices. Custom Voices can only be created by using the Tyros Voice Editor software which came on the CD ROM. This editing software has more editing capability and features than the edit parameters of the Tyros itself for editing User Voices

  • New hardware includes a balanced combi XLR/Jack input, 1 additional DSP chip and a new preamp.
  • The new intuitive GUI includes a new harmony voice mixer, revised Mic Settings page and an active Mic Level meter in the Main Display.
  • Produces 3 harmony voices in addition to the lead voice (Tyros3 creates 2 harmony voices). VH2 can also change your lead voice gender between Male and Female!
  • New pitch recognition system and stability control assists to make a perfect performance.
  • Natural formant and EQ adjustment of the harmony signal results in a much more natural harmony sound.

Song

The tempo, beat, measure and music notation is not displayed correctly.

Some Song data for the instrument has been recorded with special “free tempo” settings. For such Song data, the tempo, beat, measure and music notation will not be displayed correctly.

Selecting GM and XG Voices from the Front Panel

In addition to the exclusive high-quality TYROS Voices, GM and XG Voices may also be selected from the front panel.

1) Press a 'VOICE' category button (for example the [PIANO] button).

2) Press the '8' [v] toggle button to go up one folder level.

3) Press the '2' [^] toggle button to display the second page of VOICE Categories.

4) Press the [H] button, to the right of the screen, to select 'GM&XG'.

5) Use the [A] - [J] buttons to select a desired GM or XG Voice Category.

6) Use the [A] - [J] buttons to select a desired GM or XG Voice.

How install a different Music Finder collection

  1. Press the 'Music Finder' button
  2. Choose 'Files'
  3. Tab to the location where your new Music Finder is located - USER, HD1 or USB
  4. Select the Music Finder file
  5. Choose Replace or Append (Replace will delete the Music finder currently being used in your Tyros, Append will combine the existing Music Finder with this Music Finder File - Max 2500 Records)
  6. Select 'Yes'
  7. Select 'Yes' again and your Music Finder will be displayed
